Tuesday Prep Day

Today was easy for everyone b/c we had WHEEL since we're off Friday. Basically, all we did today was to do some smoking research and take notes for our class essay on smoking. We discovered some horrifying statistics. Did you know that tobacco kills more Americans than AIDS, drugs, homicides, fires, and auto accidents combined? During WHEEL, we had computers, Think Tank and science.

Monday the 13th

Today went smoothly. We started the day with an assessment on subtracting fractions with renaming. The students did really well w/ a difficult objective. Then the fifth graders took their chapter 9 assessment with Mr. Smith in social studies. The fourth graders went over their HW for tonight. They also discussed coordinate planes. After lunch, and while the 4th graders were in band, we read chapter 5 of "Persephone" during DI. Next, we received our spelling for the week and took notes on an article about smoking to help prepare for our 5 paragraph easy. Finally, we wrote in our class blogs about the CST.

Friday the 10th

Yesterday evening we had our pizza delivery fundraiser w/ Papa John's Pizza. Many teachers including myself, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Williams, the Krummings, Mrs. Giampa, Mrs. Mead, Mrs Polen, Mrs. Robinson and Mr Cook delivered pizzas to over 60 houses last night. It is a good thing that I am not a delivery person b/c, if I were, I wouldn't be employed long. A short delivery took Mr. Cook and I almost 40 mins as we got lost :(. Today the kids were a little strange, but we managed to salvage the day. We subtracted mixed numbers with renaming in math. The kids also reviewed for their SS test MONDAY on chapter 9. We also finished our letters of apology to Mrs. Bryant for our behavior last Friday. Finally, we went to computer for WHEEL. Friday Folders were sent today. Please review the work inside and return the empty folder. Have a great week.

Our Final CST Day!

Well, that's it. Unless your child has a modified assessment, we're all done. You should be proud of your son/daughter because every student remained upbeat, was conscientious and tried their best. I am unsure of how well we did, as I never look @ the test, but feel great about our effort. There will be HW starting again tomorrow and I will be available M-Th to help. Please do not forget our Papa John's Pizza fundraiser. It is Thursday from 5-8 and every pizza purchased will be delivered by a member of Johnson's staff. We'll get 20% of all pizza sales and 100% of the tips. Should be tasty and fun.

CST Day 5

We took part one of the CST Science test this morning. It was not a very pleasant way to begin the week but, once again, the kids did admirably. The fourth graders spent the morning in the science lab with Mr. Cook b/c their testing is complete. Tomorrow is our last day of testing (unless your child is taking a modified assessment) and I, for one, will be happy to have things back to normal. After lunch and recess, we met for math where we continued to work with adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators. Finally, the entire class started writing letters of apology to Mrs. Bryant for their behavior in Think Tank last Friday. Unfortunately, the students were very unkind and disrespectful Friday and there are consequences for this type of behavior.

Tomorrow we'll take the section of the math assessment. We'll test all the way until the 7th because grade 5 students have to take the science portion as well. Please be sure your son/daughter goes to bed 30 mins. earlier than usual, gets a good night's sleep, eats a healthy breakfast (@ home if they don't what the school serves) and arrives EARLY to Johnson.
